We therefore keep the scenario qualitative, with low confidence in the hidden proportions.

A randomized, blinded 2003 study enrolled 25 healthy adults; 21 completed it. A 5% dexpanthenol hand balm was compared with placebo on forearms for 26 days, including an irritant challenge. Of the instrumental outcomes, only the hydration measurement showed a significant difference. We inspected the abstract; full funding and conflict disclosures were not available there.

Shortlist it when you want a separate oil-free hydration layer, can tolerate some grip and prefer a clearly disclosed main ingredient. If you dislike dropper dosing, are prone to pilling, or need one rich product to replace several steps, it is a weaker fit. Persistent redness, acne or a rash calls for appropriate care, not simply more panthenol.
